A Journey of Purpose and Innovation

Himalaya Innovate began with a conversation between three friends from different corners of Asia, as Sharmila Shyangtan (Tamang) and Anish Blon Lama were from the prosperous mountains of Nepal while Matt Yutthaworakool grew up in the vibrant city of Thailand.

Despite our geographical differences, we shared common concerns: the ongoing socio-economic marginalization of indigenous and local communities, the challenge of their products in a competitive world, the lack of cultural exchange and collaboration across regions, the need for tailored training, workshops, and support services, and the gap in transdisciplinary localized research to address their challenges, needs, and opportunities.

Driven by a shared responsibility, we began to dream of a solution. We envisioned a platform that empowers indigenous and local communities through social innovation and sustainability and creates lasting impact for the people of the Himalayas and Asia.

Himalaya Innovate reflects our commitment, much like the Himalayas

Himalaya Innovate reflects our commitment, much like the Himalayas, whose physical presence spans and gives rise to civilizations in different regions. From the Everest peak in Nepal to the Mekong River in Thailand, the incredible journey of the Himalayas inspires us that anything is possible. Like the mountains, we are rooted in tradition, yet we rise to meet global challenges. Like the rivers, we carve new paths of collaboration with inclusivity. Be it mud or currents, we believe that complex problems require innovative solutions to ensure no community is left behind.
Our journey is not only about creating social impact, but also about sustaining it through innovation, as embodied in our vision: “Social Impact Innovation for Sustainable Asia.” We are more than just a startup because we are building partnerships, nurturing cultural pride, protecting mother nature, and empowering communities.

We are Himalaya Innovate. We stand tall like the peaks we admire and flow forward with purposes like the rivers we respect.
